Thinking of Moving? – Read This and Remember the Details Matter

And if you are thinking of selling in 2022, it’s worth noting. Why? Well, to adapt the phrase slightly, ‘the deal is in the details’.
Many people looking to buy a new home cannot look beyond seemingly minor issues. Things like a missing kitchen cabinet handle, an unpainted wall in the spare room, weeds on the driveway, or the untidy back garden.
These are small details on the face of it, but they can often derail a sale quicker than you can say Japanese knotweed (now that’s a story for another blog).
Here’s a shortlist of small things you can do to make your home stand out for all the right reasons.
- Tidy up before every viewing. Enough said.
- If you have a driveway, consider getting it jet washed – it can make a big difference to your property’s kerb appeal.
- If you live in an apartment block, ensure your front door is clean, and your doormat looks welcoming.
- Go through your front door and pause for a moment to see what the first things you look at are. If it’s an overflowing coat rack or a dirty carpet, do something about it. You want a buyer’s first impression of your home to be positive, so aim to keep the entrances as clear and clean as possible.
- Get your most honest friend or family member to take an unemotional look at your property and point out any little jobs that need sorting.
It’s worth remembering that most buyers will (consciously or subconsciously) look for problems within a property. So, by removing as many potential issues as possible, you increase your property’s chances of selling for a price you’re happy with.
